Visit Country Bergerac Dordogne Périgord Pourpre
Bergerac, capital of the land of vines
The city of Cyrano joined the network in 2014. It has since provided the opportunity to animate the past and present of the city around its history, its architecture and the particularities of its urban planning. In Bergerac, a cascade of squares to discover at the bend of alleys alternates with charming stops where a few elaborate doors open surreptitiously onto an interior courtyard that looks like a Garden of Eden.
Bergerac can also be discovered by water, in a barge on the Dordogne, or on dry land to stroll and meet the boatmen's houses on Place de la Myrpe. On the way to the river, all you have to do is enjoy the calm of the Cloître des Récollet before tasting the local nectars on the Quai Cyrano.
And if the “purple Périgord” tempts you…
Head south, and its attractive vineyards in the Bergerac region for a glass of Monbazillac, or Pécharmant.
Beyond the chestnut groves, hidden far from the tumult of the crowds, Monpazier, a proud bastide, can boast of being the best preserved in France. It is home to the very arched Place des Cornières, the birthplace of the adventurer Jean Galmot and its Artisan shops...

Périgueux, capital of Périgord
A two-thousand-year-old city, Périgueux, capital of Périgord, was born from the union of the ancient Gallo-Roman city of Vesunna and Puy Saint Front, a medieval and Renaissance ensemble dominated by the famous Roman-Byzantine style cathedral.
The Vesunna museum which traces the daily life of the city from the 1st and 2nd centuries, the domed Romanesque church of the city, the Renaissance mansions on the banks of the Isle, constitute, with many other buildings, the remarkable heritage of this city labeled City of Art and History.
